Ebook About
Rooted in her experiences growing up in an Evangelical Christian family, Jamie Lee Finch’s “You Are Your Own” offers an overview of Evangelicalism and the painful confusion and anxiety experienced under its demands. Finch explores the mechanisms of trauma and how fundamentalist denominations match the patterns connected with PTSD. She elaborates on the doubt, guilt, fear, and grief that haunt those leaving the Evangelical faith and offers an approach to help them recover healthy self-worth and resilience.A socio-historical autobiographical analysis of Evangelical Christianity's religious trauma, “You Are Your Own” emerges from Finch's reconnaissance on her own life—her journals, her stories, her trauma—and offers advocacy for everyone harmed by fundamentalist faith.Jamie Lee Finch is a sexuality and embodiment coach, intuitive healer, self-conversation facilitator, sex witch, and poet.

Book You Are Your Own: A Reckoning with the Religious Trauma of Evangelical Christianity Review :

I've been dying to get my hands on this book for months and I finally got around to reading it and liked it so much I finished it in less than 48 hours. It's a pretty short book and it's pretty easy to get through! The information Jamie shares is so powerful and I believe than anyone who grew up in Evangelical Christianity could benefit from reading this book. I know that some would call this an attack, but if a system can't be critiqued how unstable must it be? A generation of children who were raised in Evangelicalism are struggling and hating themselves, this gives some explanations as well as some suggestions for moving forward. An amazing read. As an ex-MK and a current PK, this spoke to me.
Jamie Lee Finch is brilliant. She ripped back the curtain to shine a bright light on the dark, illogical, controlling beliefs that are oppressing and traumatizing so many people within American Christianity and Evanglicalism. This book is definitely worth a read for anyone, especially those who are trying to sort out what happened to them in Evangelicalism and why moving on is so difficult and confusing.
